Yes, you heard right. QPR midfielder Joey Barton has questioned now ex-Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez.
While Barton was sat at home this summer, Sanchez was lighting up the World Cup with Chile, but the controversial still has his doubts over Arsenal's acclaimed signing.
Ranting on his Twitter feed, Barton stated:
Am I the only one not overly wetting my pants over Arsenal signing Sanchez? From what I've seen of him he is incredibly inconsistant.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) July 11, 2014
Yes, on his day he can light up a game. But as anyone who has watched Barca will tell you. His good games are as common as his bad.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) July 11, 2014
Whilst I think it will improve Arsenal. They still need more if they are to challenge for the title. Still think they need a bit of steel.— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) July 11, 2014
He plays better for Chile where he's the main man than Barca where he's in Messi's shadow. Will he be the main man at the Emirates?— Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) July 11, 2014
While few Arsenal fans would disagree that they still need a top class defensive midfielder, and further additions at the back to be confident of a title challenge, his criticism of Sanchez is pretty unfair.
The Chilean netted a very consistent 19 goals in 27 La Liga starts for Barcelona last season, as well as providing 10 assists.
The year before he scored eight goals in 18 starts and provided nine assists, while in his debut campaign he netted 12 times and created five in 20 La Liga starts.
