Darren Fletcher has said the side are looking forward to working under their new manager, and are determined to right the wrongs of the last campaign.
United endured as disappointing campaign last term as they finished seventh under David Moyes - who succeeded Sir Alex Ferguson - which led to the Scot's dismissal 11 months after he was announced as the boss at Old Trafford.
But with a manager with a proven track record of winning titles in Europe, combined with leading the Netherlands to the semi-finals of this summer's World Cup, and the addition of a couple of new signings, Fletcher has said everyone is looking forward to van Gaal's arrival.
Fletcher is quoted on the Manchester United website, saying: "There are some new signings and a real buzz around the place. Everybody's looking forward to the manager coming in and him getting his ideas in.
“We want to push on after the disappointment of last season. We're desperate to do well for the fans and get the team back to where we belong.”
So far United have secured the services of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw from Southampton, and have shown they are not afraid to splash the cash, having spent around £60 million so far.
They have also been linked with Arturo Vidal from Juventus as van Gaal looks to assemble a side capable of challenging for the title in his first season in charge at Old Trafford, or at the very least getting the side back into the Champions League.
No doubt there will be more signings to come at Old Trafford, but if there is a positive feel about Old Trafford going into the new season, and that translates into results then they are likely to be a big threat in the Premier League in the season ahead.
