Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey names three players who the club should try to sign as a replacement for Luis Suarez if the striker leaves this summer.

With Liverpool reportedly negotiating with Barcelona over the transfer of Luis Suarez, there have been suggestions that they will need a replacement for the forward.

But who will it be?

According to the club’s former striker Emile Heskey, it should be James Rodriguez.

‘Both Alexis Sanchez and James Rodriguez have lit up the World Cup’, Goal.com quotes the 36-year-old as saying when asked who he would like the Reds to replace Suarez with.

‘The latter is only 23 so you would get a lot of mileage out of him. James would be my number one if Liverpool could get him.

Divock Origi has been targeted by Liverpool and he has really impressed me as well at the World Cup. He wasn't overawed and was clinical in front of goal despite his age’.

Heskey made his comments before Arsenal announced the signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona (click here to read more) on Thursday evening so that’s off the table.

As for Rodriguez, it is not really feasible for the Merseyside outfit to sign the 22-year-old Colombia international this summer.

The attacker was a star for Colombia at the ongoing 2014 World Cup finals and, perhaps understandably, has been linked with a move away from AS Monaco.

However, the Ligue 1 club paid Porto €45 million (£36m) for the youngster’s services last summer and are unlikely to sell him for anything less.

Rodriguez himself has said that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day, while Monaco have stated that the former Banfield star will remain part of their team next season.

Liverpool’s only realistic option among the three players that former England international striker Heskey - who won the FA Cup and the UEFA Cup among other trophies during his time at Anfield – names is Divock Origi.

The Belgium international striker was in impressive form at the World Cup and, according to another former Liverpool star Michael Owen, is better than his compatriot and Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku (click here to read more).

There are reports that Liverpool have agreed a deal with Lille to sign the teenager and then loan him back to the French club for the 2014-15 season.

But Origi is only 19 and has played fewer than 50 Ligue 1 matches – can he really replace Suarez if the Uruguayan does leave this summer?

Perhaps Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers should be looking to build his attack around Daniel Sturridge next season.
