Arsenal fans react to Suarez sale on Twitter

Giant Anfield Flag

The Gunners are in buoyant mood after signing Alexis Sanchez in a contrast to how Liverpool fans are feeling from the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

It is testament to how highly Luis Suarez's talent is thought of within England that his transfer from Liverpool to Barcelona for £75 million has dominated the press pages despite the conclusion of the World Cup being just two days away.

The Anfield club may be considerably wealthier thanks to their skills at the negotiating table, however, the Premier League is no doubt a poorer product without the controversial Uruguayan.

Liverpool, also, have been weakened as the striker alone was responsible for 42.5% of the club's total goals in the division (31 goals + 12 assists from him; 101 total goals for Liverpool).

Could all this have been a master-plan from Arsene Wenger?

That has been a widespread suggestion on social media as Gunners supporters, excited because of the arrival of Alexis Sanchez earlier this week, claim that Wenger purposefully passed on Cesc Fabregas so that Chelsea could pay out for the Spaniard. Then when Arsene moved for Sanchez, Barcelona knew they would have enough to bid big for Suarez.

There are others who poked fun at Liverpool's situation, pretending to emphasise with Merseysiders by saying they know what it's like to lose a big player as they had to say goodbye to Nicklas Bendtner.
