Report - Arsenal have learned Bernard wants to leave Shakhtar

Arsenal are reportedly looking at a potential swoop for Brazilian youngster Bernard.

Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for 21-year-old Brazilian Bernard as Arsene Wenger looks to back up the imminent signing of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona.

Several reports have suggested that Wenger is eyeing two key attacking signings in the transfer market this summer, as he looks to improve his attack ahead of the new Premier League season.

Bernard could be the next big money deal for the club, with claiming that the Gunners have been made aware that the forward is open to the idea of leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Gunners have learned that the 21-year-old wide forward is keen to move on from Shakhtar just 12 months after leaving his homeland to join the Ukraine club,” writes Wayne Veysey.

However, before Gunners everywhere get a little too excited with this news, there are a couple of potential stumbling blocks.

Firstly, Bernard is a very ambitious young player and someone who is unlikely to commit to a move unless he’s going to play regularly in the side he’s joining.

At Arsenal, there’s no guarantee of that happening.

Alexis’ arrival would give Wenger an option over on the left hand side and also provide the boss with four options he could then use up front in the form of Alexis, Olivier Giroud, Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott, when he returns to full fitness.

The second potential stumbling block is the price with Goal’s report suggesting Shakhtar will hold out for a fee of around £20 million.

Whether Wenger will want to spend that on a player with restricted top flight experience in Europe is debatable, as one of his main transfer ideals at the Gunners is getting good value for money.

Bernard would be a superb, versatile option for the club as he can play down the left or up front and only time will tell in terms of whether this story gathers pace and a deal becomes realistic.
