Here is the potential Arsenal side for next season based on current players and potential signings.
Arsene Wenger was recently criticised for playing volleyball on the beach while Arsenal’s rivals signed players, but the Gunners appear to be close to landing some blows of their own.
With the summer transfer window officially open, Arsenal are starting to make moves for key targets, which will put them in a very good position when the Premier League starts on August 16.
We’ve had a go at naming Arsenal’s potential starting eleven for next season based on the latest rumours and updates.
GK – Wojciech Szczesny
All of the goalkeepers Arsenal are being linked with are back up options to the Pole, who deserves the chance to start as number one next season.
RB – Mathieu Debuchy
An experienced Premier League player and a very good alternative to Serge Aurier, who was being touted as the natural successor to Bacary Sagna.
CB – Per Mertesacker
If Mertesacker wins the World Cup with Germany, he’ll return to the Gunners full of confidence.
CB – Laurent Koscielny
The Frenchman formed a great partnership with the German last season and that’s unlikely to change.
LB – Kieran Gibbs
Gibbs could find himself on the left hand side after a decent campaign last season. He offers pace and drive going forward.
RM – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The Ox should be slightly fresher as he picked up an injury before England’s World Cup campaign started. He is lethal off of the right hand side.
DM – Sami Khedira
Khedira would be a great option for Arsenal in front of the back four if they can agree a deal with Real Madrid and a personal deal with the player.
CM – Aaron Ramsey
Considering Ramsey was one of Arsenal’s most effective players last season, it would be a major surprise if he doesn’t start.
AM – Mesut Ozil
Ozil’s inconsistency last season has been well documented but he’ll also be confident coming off the back of a World Cup winning campaign if the Germans can defeat Argentina.
LM – Alexis Sanchez
Arsenal are reportedly waiting for Luis Suarez to move to Barcelona before they announce their deal for Sanchez. He’s a good option out on the left or moving into central positions.
ST – Olivier Giroud
The Frenchman was backed by Wenger last season and he’ll be back again next season.
