We now have our World Cup final match up between Germany and Argentina as the Argentines managed to scrape past Louis van Gaal’s Netherlands on spot kicks.
Unfortunately the second semi-final couldn’t live up to the excitement and breathtaking nature of the first but it sets up a showdown this weekend, which will leave several England supporters feeling conflicted.
On the transfer market, there is still plenty going on with Liverpool expected to announce a deal for Lazar Markovic while Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal for Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis.
We’ve decided to take a look back at the headlines on this day last year.
‘Toure’s Arsenal warning for Suarez’
Liverpool new boy Kolo Toure warned striker Luis Suarez that moving to Arsenal would be a bad idea.
The centre-back suggested that if the Uruguayan made the move to North London, he’d win fewer trophies than if he stayed at Anfield.
“Of course, if he stays he can have more chances to win trophies,” Toure is quoted by the Mirror.
‘Thiago told to reject United move’
Spanish midfielder Thiago was urged to reject a potential move to Manchester United by national coach Vicente Del Bosque.
The former Barcelona midfielder was being linked with a high profile move to Old Trafford, with ex-United boss David Moyes keen to improve the middle of his team.
Thiago eventually moved to Bayern Munich with United signing Marouane Fellaini on the final day of the transfer window.
‘Arsenal preparing for Fabregas return’
The Daily Mail claimed Arsenal were preparing a £25 million deal to re-sign Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona.
The Spaniard went back to Spain with the hope of replacing Barcelona icon Xavi in the first team.
However, he failed to show the consistency to remove Xavi from the side, which ultimately led to his transfer to Chelsea this summer.
