Chelsea captain John Terry has paid tribute to Ashley Cole.
Ashley Cole signed on a free transfer with Roma this week, beginning a new chapter in his storied career.
He spent the best part of a decade at Chelsea after signing in 2006, and it was a highly successful stint in his career.
Along side him for the duration of that was centre-back John Terry, who also featured with Cole for England.
After Cole clinched his switch to Roma this week, Terry sent an emotional message to Cole on Instagram paying tribute to him and wishing him well.
"Good luck @ashcoley3, The best left back I have ever played with and this country has EVER seen, So sad to see you go mate. It's been a real pleasure and honour to learn from the best, A winner who gave everything for our football club. Chelsea Legend Forever."
The respectful message illustrates just how highly regarded Cole is among his peers and those who know him well.
He is an under appreciated talent of his generation, and just like England missed him this summer, Chelsea will hope they have the talent to cover.
Last season they saw Cesar Azpilicueta come in and keep Cole out of the side, while there is also interest in Atletico Madrid's Filipe Luis.
Both players however will have to go a long way to match the sustained success and impact Cole has had at Chelsea.
