Hugo Lloris signs new five-year contract with Tottenham

Lloris has committed his future to the club despite reported interest from elsewhere during the previous campaign.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has signed a new five-year contract at White Hart Lane.

Lloris, who signed from Lyon in 2012, has been one of the stand-out goalkeepers in the Premier League since his arrival, and has made 78 appearances for the club during his time at White Hart Lane.

It represents a massive amount of faith in new Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino, who was recently appointed the boss at Tottenham following 18 impressive months at Southampton.

Lloris has been linked with moves away from White Hart Lane to clubs providing Champions League football, and Spurs will have been delighted to keep hold of France's number one stopper.

He outlined that the ambition of Pochettino and the club were big reasons for him penning a new deal.

He told the club's website: "It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well. I enjoy a great relationship with the Club and the fans. The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious.

"Everything is clear in my head and if I’ve signed a new contract it’s because I trust the Club and I’m sure we will progress in a positive way."

Lloris is hoping for a better campaign this time around. The aim for Spurs will inevitably Champions League qualification, and they will hope to improve on last season where they were on the wrong end of thrashings to the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea - something which can't afford to happen again if the club is to realise their ambitions during the next term.

Lloris added: “Last season wasn’t the season we all hoped for but we were still able to finish sixth in the league. We know where we have to improve, the Club also knows and there is a feeling and a confident connection between the Club and the players.”

Though there may not have been much transfer activity around the club so far this summer, Lloris penning a new deal could prove to be the most important signing they make ahead of the new season.
