Serie A transfer latest: Fiorentina told 'no' by Arsenal midfielder Arteta

All the latest summer transfer news from Serie A...

Speculation today had strongly linked Fiorentina with a move to sign Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, with La Viola boss Vincenzo Montella keen to pair the 32-year-old with compatriot Borja Valero. The former Everton man endured a tough campaign last season, but Arteta's agent says he won't be leaving for Fiorentina or anywhere else, pledging his client's future to the Gunners.

"I haven’t heard from any clubs," Inaki Ibanez said. "What are the chances of him leaving? He’s the captain of Arsenal, he is an Arsenal player and he’s happy here. He also has a contract for another year."

With Real Madrid strongly linked with a move to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, it seems that at least one central midfield player will leave the Spanish capital this summer. Luka Modric and Xabi Alonso appear to be safe, whilst youngster Casemiro will push for first team football next season. Sami Khedira has been linked with a move away, but it seems more and more likely that Asier Illarramendi will spend this season away from Madrid.

The £33m signing from a year ago failed to make an impact after his move from Real Sociedad, and Athletic Bilbao are reportedly eyeing him as a replacement for Manchester United's new signing Ander Herrera. Yet today, it's Serie A side Inter Milan who are looking to make a move for the 24-year-old - despite Frenchman Yann M'Vila seemingly on the way in from Rubin Kazan.

Elsewhere, Roma are growing increasingly frustrated with Manchester City's approach for defender Mehdi Benatia. The Moroccan had an exceptional season with Rudi Garcia's side last season, and have told City that they must pay €35m by the 21st of July to land the 27-year-old centre back, or the deal is off completely.
