We bring you the latest news from Celtic, Rangers, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hibernian
1) Scott Brown set for lengthy lay-off
Celtic captain Scott Brown has been ruled out for three months with a torn hamstring.
Brown picked up the injury during a pre-season friendly match against Rapid Vienna and is now set to miss what could be a crucial start of the season for The Bhoys.
The combative midfielder will not only miss the start of Celtic’s domestic campaign, but he will also be out for their Championship League qualifier against KR Reykjavik, much to his manager, Ronnie Deila’s, disappointment.
"It's not positive news for Scott, he'll be out for at least two months, maybe three,” Deila said.
2) Benfica in for Celtic’s Fraser Forster
Benfica are hoping to sign Fraser Forster from Celtic for a fee of £6 million, according to the Daily Record.
Forster has established himself as one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in world football after a series of excellent performances in the SPL and the Champions League with Celtic and is now interesting the Portuguese giants.
Forster has been on Benfica’s wishlist for some time now, but it appears that last season’s Europa League runners-up are set to step up their interest this summer.
3) Steve Smith expects tour matches to test Rangers
Rangers full-back Steve Smith is expecting the club’s tour of America to be a tough test.
Smith played in the MLS back in 2012 so knows what to expect of the football in the States and he thinks that it will be a real challenge for Rangers.
“When I first went over there, I was on trial for a week and we played a couple of local teams who weren’t bad at all,” he said.
“The one thing they’ll always be is fit and with weather and everything else we’ll certainly get a good workout."
“It’s something different for us. Last year we went to Germany and we loved it there but America and Canada are a good alternative.”
Rangers are set to play Ventura County Fusion on July 15th, before testing facing off against Sacramento Republic FC on the 19th of the same month.
4) Hibernian reject Swansea offer for star
Hibernian have rejected Swansea City’s approach for Jason Cummings, with the Scottish club determined to keep hold of their star prospect.
Cummings notched over 30 times for Hibs’ under 20 side last season and is believed to attracted the attention of a range of clubs, although Swansea are the first to make a formal offer.
The bid was thought to have been a six-figure one, but Hibs found it unsatisfactory and rejected it, meaning Swansea will have to raise their offer if they are to secure their target.
5) Inverness Caledonian Thistle face competition for striker-target
Inverness Caledonian Thistle are set to do battle with another SPL club and two unnamed League One sides for the signature of John-Christophe Ayina.
Ayina’s contract at Racing Santander was cancelled this summer and he is now available on a free-transfer, with it looking likely he will head to the UK.
The 23-year-old front man made 17 appearances for the Spanish side and scored five goals, during his time there.
