Report: Fiorentina ready to swoop for Arteta

Serie A side Fiorentina are lining up a move for Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta, reports in Italy claim.

Fiorentina have been linked with Arsenal man Mikel Arteta in the past and it seems that the Viola may finally put in an offer.

Arteta's future at Arsenal is the subject of some debate and his agent has only just denied rumours that the experienced midfielder is headed for Athletic Bilbao.

The ex-Everton man made 31 appearances for the Gunners last season in all competitions, sharing the holding midfielder role with Mathieu Flamini.

But Arteta's contract expires at the end of this season and it has been suggested that Arsenal may be willing to let him move on now rather than lose him for nothing next summer.

Reports from the Corriere dello Sport suggest that Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella is an admirer of Arteta and has been keeping an eye on him, hoping for a summer move.

The Italian newspaper claims that Arsene Wenger would be willing to sell Arteta for around £3 million and much will depend on the will of the player.

While Fiorentina don't have the spending power of some of their Serie A rivals, they have managed to attract some big-name players over the years.

Fiorentina finished fourth in Serie A last season and will be in the Europa League next season as well as trying to chase the Scudetto.
