There’s only one thing, which fans are talking about this morning and that’s the way Germany destroyed Brazil to seal their place in the World Cup final this weekend.
The Germans were on top form and weren’t intimidated by a vibrant and aggressive crowd that watched their heroes unable to fulfil a World Cup dream on home soil.
The rumour mill continues to spin round and there is plenty of activity on the transfer market with Arsenal’s move for Alexis Sanchez likely to be among the transfers sealed this week.
We’ve taken a look back at the stories making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Suarez speaks on Arsenal interest’
It was around this time last year that Arsenal made very public plays to sign Luis Suarez from Liverpool.
The Gunners went on to offer £40 million plus £1, which triggered the player’s buy-out clause, something Liverpool owner John Henry admitted his club ignored last summer.
“It’s good to know that I am still valued by teams like Arsenal,” said the Uruguayan.
‘Mourinho calls Mata and Torres’
The Mirror ran a report, which claimed Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had called Juan Mata and Fernando Torres, telling them to ignore transfer gossip over their futures.
The Spanish duo were seemingly wary of what the future may hold under the Portuguese coach.
Mata was sold to Manchester United last summer in a huge deal, while Torres continues to be linked with an exit following the arrival of Diego Costa.
‘United to improve Baines offer’
Manchester United saw a £12 million offer for left-back Leighton Baines turned down, with the Toffees thought to have wanted closer to £18 million.
That’s the price that Sir Alex Ferguson refused to pay for the England international, placing new boss David Moyes under pressure to find an extra player at left-back.
United didn’t manage to pull off a left-back signing last summer, with Patrice Evra and former player Alexander Buttner holding squad positions.
