Leeds United supporters react on Twitter to Marco Silvestri signing

Fans of Leeds United have taken to the social media site to welcome the Marco Silvestri to the club.

Leeds United have confirmed the signing of Italian goalkeeper Marco Silvestri and it has sparked a good reaction from their fan-base on Twitter.

Silvestri is new boss David Hockaday’s second signing of the summer, after he snapped up Stuart Taylor last week, and will likely come in as Leeds’ first-choice 'keeper, with Paddy Kenny axed from the club earlier this month.

The 23-year-old Italian stopper comes with good pedigree, having played for a host of clubs in his native country.

He joins on an undisclosed fee from Chievo, although he never made an appearance for Mussi Volanti during his time at the club, with his form whilst out on loan being what impressed the Leeds hierarchy.

Silvestri has been on loan at Reggiana, Padova and Cagliari during his burgeoning career so far and has obviously done enough to convince Leeds to sign him.

The transfer has been funded by some of the money they have received from Fulham in the £11 million deal that saw Ross McCormack depart.

Silvestri has signed a four-year-deal with the Whites and looks set to be the first real show of intent from new owner Massimo Cellino, as he looks to add an Italian feel to Leeds’ current first-team squad.

The signing has excited Hockaday, too, who believes that Elland Road will be the platform that the young custodian needs to flourish.

“Everybody in Italy believes that Marco is destined for very big things,” Hockaday said to the club’s official site. “We are delighted to welcome him to Leeds."

“He has been training with us for a week now and he has impressed everybody. Not only with his quality on the park but with his general manner off it as well."

“So are we delighted to welcome a very good person and footballer to Leeds United.”

He is not the only person with a vested interest in Leeds to be delighted to have secured the Silvestri’s signature, though, with supporters also taking to social media site Twitter to express their happiness about the transfer.
