In transfer news, The Daily Mail reports that Louis van Gaal ‘pulled the plug’ on United’s move for Toni Kroos suggesting that David Moyes had set up a deal to sign the Germany midfielder from Bayern Munich this summer, prior to his sacking from his post, and that the Dutch coach instructed the club to sign Ander Herrera instead. Toni Kroos is now expected to join Real Madrid for less than £25 million.
Reports also suggest today that David Moyes had planned to bring in Fernando who has just signed for Manchester City this month.
Meanwhile, the BBC reports Juventus have approached United over Patrice Evra. The Italian champions are hopeful of agreeing a deal with the Red Devils for the sale of their vice-captain, despite the 33-year-old France fullback’s recent signing of a new one-year deal to stay on at Old Trafford.
United remain linked with Argentina attacker Angel Di Maria who is thought to be next on Louis van Gaal’s wish list this summer. The Real Madrid winger is reportedly being ‘monitored’ at this stage with a view to bringing him to Old Trafford.
However, The Metro claims United are already in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Angel Di Maria and also suggested United are linked with Germany defender Mats Hummels for a combined £75 million double-deal.
Reports suggest United have ‘stepped up’ their pursuit of Mats Hummels and are prepared to pay £20 million to sign the Borussia Dortmund centre-back still at the World Cup in Brazil representing Germany.
Elsewhere, The Mirror suggests left-back Ricardo Rodriguez is a target for United to replace Alexander Buttner. The club signed England fullback Luke Shaw earlier this month but are reportedly eyeing a move for the Netherlands left-back to come in to provide cover.
