Chelsea striker questions Ozil's decision to join Arsenal

Ozil Downcast

Chelsea youngster Romelu Lukaku has questioned why Arsenal’s club record signing is at the club.

The 21-year-old Belgium striker took to his Twitter account to question why Arsenal and Germany playmaker Mesut Ozil is at the club. Whilst he appeared to clarify his comments with a mark of respect for Arsenal as a ‘big club’, the Chelsea striker seemed to be wondering why the 25-year-old joined the Gunners for £42.5 million last summer:

Whilst the Belgian insists in the Tweet he means no ‘disrespect’ to Arsenal he revealed his confusion over why the German left Real Madrid. Lukaku may need him memory jogging but the German left the Spanish capital upon the arrival of world record signing Gareth Bale along with Spain youngster Isco at the Bernabeu with his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s team under threat.

The German insisted at the time of his move he moved to Arsenal due to the ‘trust’ he felt from manager Arsene Wenger who had convinced him the Emirates was the place he would be a considered an integral part of the team.

Lukaku is currently uncertain over his own future at Stamford Bridge after returning from his season-long loan spell at Everton. He claims he has not spoken with the Blues since September but it is thought Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may not consider him a part of the team next term, especially with the arrival of Spain striker Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

Arsenal fans may perceive this comment as a slight on their most expensive player but whether or not Romelu Lukaku understands the reasons behind Mesut Ozil’s move to North London, the player himself only will know whether or not he regrets his decision.

The German came under fire from critics in the last 12 months for his performances for both club and country but Gunners fans will he hoping he returns from the World Cup with a refreshed and renewed confidence in order to take into the new campaign.
