Five Tottenham Hotspur players to watch in pre-season - Walker, Lamela and more

White Hart Lane 5

There are several Tottenham Hotspur players who face an important pre-season at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur’s main objective looking ahead to next season will be to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino appears to be working hard in the transfer market to improve his squad, but it’s important he gears the side up for an intense pre-season schedule ahead of the new season.

The first scheduled game of Tottenham’s pre-season campaign is against Seattle on July 19 and there are a few players who should be looking to impress over the next few weeks.

Kyle Walker

Walker missed the World Cup with England through injury but he should be very determined to hit the ground running ahead of the new season. It’s important he uses pre-season to improve his fitness and to increase his match sharpness as the club are being linked with some right-back alternatives.

Erik Lamela

If Lamela isn’t axed then he needs to work hard to convince Pochettino that he should be in the side next season. He barely played last season due to injury and his challenge will be to break into what is becoming a well established group of midfielders at White Hart Lane.

Sandro

Sandro can use pre-season as a chance to show Pochettino that he’s the number one holding player at the club. There has been talk of Napoli making a bid, which, if true, suggest that Pochettino has doubts over the Brazilian and the Beast has to dispel those doubts if he wants to stay at the club.

Jordan Archer

Archer is a 21-year-old goalkeeper who could seriously press a claim to get into the first team squad with a solid pre-season. Hugo Lloris shouldn’t leave and with Brad Friedel not getting any younger, there is a real chance for Archer to excel during pre-season to rival Friedel for the back up ‘keeper position.

Milos Veljkovic

The 18-year-old found fame through the Europa League last season and he could persuade Pochettino to pay a lot of attention to him. One of Pochettino’s best traits at Southampton was his ability to work with younger players, which means if Veljkovic plays well during pre-season, the boss may just give him a chance.
