Southampton boss Koeman says Dušan Tadić can replace Adam Lallana

New Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has earmarked Dušan Tadić to step up to the plate and replace the recently departed Adam Lallana.

Dušan Tadić's arrival at Southampton has been heralded by Ronald Koeman as being "very important" to the club, the playing staff and to the fan base as a whole.

Tuesday's announcement saw the first signing of the Koeman era at Southampton, as the Dutch legend commences his rebuild in the wake of key departures.

Tadić, 25, has penned a four-year deal with the Saints that will see him replace Adam Lallana, who signed for Liverpool on July the 1st in a deal worth £25m.

Whilst Koeman acknowledged the ability of Lallana, he backed his new signing to make his own mark at St. Mary's and replace the void left by the former Saints captain.

"He is a technical player, a good player. He keeps the ball, he has a fantastic left foot as well as free-kicks and corner kicks," Koeman told Southampton's official YouTube channel.

"We lost Lallana, this kind of player is very important in a team."

"Always in a team you are looking to players who will score between ten, fifteen or maybe more goals. Goals are points, that's for sure."

When asked about the importance of the deal, Koeman was keen to highlight the magnitude of the signing in terms of it acting as a message to the existing playing staff and also to the fan base as a whole.

"It's important for me, it's important for the rest of the squad and it's important for the fans because we lost two good players. It's a great signal to have the first new player, and we look forward to bringing in some other players."

Koeman admitted that although Tadić's arrival is an important landmark for Southampton ahead of the new campaign, there will be more business to come as he looks to continue the club's ambitious outlook.

"We'd like to continue and maybe do even more than what Southampton did last season. In that case, we need some new players to bring in to have real competition between the players in our squad," Koeman said.

"It's fantastic news for the rest of the players, but sometimes we can bring in some new young players. We have to look for them. In preseason, you never start with the squad that you will have when you start the season."

"But now, with Tadić in the team, it will become easier."
