Ronaldinho in awe of Arsenal's Mesut Ozil: 'His technique is Brazilian'

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has had kind words to say about under-fire Mesut Ozil.

Brazilian legend Ronaldinho has picked out Arsenal's Mesut Ozil as one of two players in Germany's team who he loves watching.

Germany face off against Brazil in the World Cup semi-finals this week, the first time the two teams have met at this stage of the tournament.

In fact they have only faced off once before, in the 2002 World Cup Final, when Ronaldinho was part of the Brazil side which won 2-0.

He told German magazine SportBILD in an interview that he wishes he was still part of the squad. At 34, one year removed from being a Copa Libertadores winner with Atletico Mineiro he admits:

"I had high hopes to be there. It did not happen. It's annoying me."

He is confident a Brazil without the injured Neymar can still beat their German rivals, but has picked out two key dangermen.

First is Bayern Munich's Mario Gotze, who he describes as 'having skills which very few possess', and the second is Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

"Germany has super many technicians. For example, Mesut Özil. He plays like a Brazilian. You Germans no longer make your players mechanically, not squeezed it into a concept, but let them play football. Create your tricks. Like how do we do it in Brazil. This benefits your team."

Ozil has been criticised during his spell for Germany at the tournament despite being played out wide for much of it. Expectation around him is such that if he does not dominate every game from start to finish, he cops the flak.

His touch of composure and assuredness in the final third is what sets him apart from other players, and in game of high intensity such as the World Cup semi-final, the watching millions around the globe may just see the best of him.

It is not the first time Ronaldinho has spoken glowingly of an Arsenal star this month. He wished Lukas Podolski luck last week after the German praised himself after attending the Gremio stadium, where Ronaldinho began his career. He will not be wishing he and Ozil enjoy too much success this week.
