Manchester United transfer news: €40m Vidal latest; reported £12m bid ready for defender

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport continues to report on Manchester United’s alleged interest in Arturo Vidal.

The Juventus midfielder is one of the best in his position in the world and he would be an outstanding addition to Louis van Gaal’s side.

The latest report claims there has been “insistent contact with United” for Vidal, who are said to be willing to pay €40million for the Chilean.

The report also states that the Serie A club are “ready for any eventuality”, which could bode well for those United fans desperate to see Vidal at Old Trafford. But in truth, just as with Cesc Fabregas last summer, it could be a move that fails to come to life beyond the gossip columns.

In other news, the Express reports that United are focusing their attentions on signing Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen following Belgium’s elimination from the World Cup.

The paper claims United are willing to double their initial £6million bid for the defender, as van Gaal seeks to bring in the players who can replace the departed Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
