However, the Reds' second highest appearance holder did say that his old side will find it difficult without the Uruguayan striker, who scored 31 goals in the Premier League last season as the Reds just missed out on the title to Manchester City.
In a twitter Q&A, where he also revealed that Steven Gerrard was the most inspirational player he played with and Thierry Henry was the best player he had played against, Liverpool's former number 23 said:
It will be sad to see Suarez go, best striker I played with. LFC will find it difficult without him— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) July 8, 2014
Carragher also added that he sees Manchester United as a threat under Louis van Gaal, especially with no European football to contend with, after a disappointing campaign under David Moyes last season where they finished in seventh place.
With Liverpool on the lookout for new players in order to challenge for the Premier League title again, as well as trying to compete in the Premier League this season, Carragher suggested Liverpool should target 21-year-old Raphael Varane from Real Madrid.
If Liverpool are looking for a centre back my one for the Future is Varane from Real Madrid— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) July 8, 2014
Liverpool have so far made three signings in the transfer window this summer. One of them is central midfielder Emre Can from Bayer Leverkusen, who has taken Carragher's old shirt number 23. The former defender had this to say on the £9.8 million arrival:
I loved wearing the No 23 if Emre Can has have the enjoyment wearing It as I did then he will turn out to be a great signing for LFC— Jamie Carragher (@Carra23) July 8, 2014
