Chelsea fans react on Twitter to David Luiz's World Cup display - "Proof that Mourinho knows best!"

Brazil crashed out of the World Cup in the semi-finals after an embarrassing 7-1 defeat at the hands of Germany.

The hosts had been tipped to win the tournament before it started, but that assertion has slowly dwindled over the course of the last month. Poor defending, robust tactics, favourable refereeing decisions and an over-reliance on the now-injured Neymar have seen more and more people hop off the Brazil bandwagon as the tournament has gone on.

Despite that, Luiz Felipe Scolari's side have continued to edge games by the smallest of margins, but tonight, that finally came to an end as Germany swept them aside in clinical fashion. First half goals from Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, a Toni Kroos brace and a Sami Khedira goal had Joachim Loew's side 5-0 up at the break after a stunning 18 minute goal blitz.

Substitute Andre Schurrle added two more goals to reduce the Belo Horizonte crowd to tears, but Oscar salvaged the smallest crumb of respect with a late consolation. The tears transmitted from the crowd down to the embarrassed players, including stand-in captain David Luiz.

Luiz was handed the armband after the suspension for Thiago Silva, and he endured what was arguably his worst night of his career. Rash in the tackle, positionally naive and lacking any sort of evident leadership qualities, Luiz was an absolute shambles in the Brazilian back four - causing Chelsea fans to laud their club for the recent transfer which saw Luiz move to Paris Saint-Germain for €50m.

Those supporters took to Twitter to voice their pleasure at seeing Luiz play so badly, but only because it further emphasised that Blues boss Jose Mourinho was right all along when it came to selling the former Benfica man. Here are a selection of tweets from Chelsea fans on David Luiz tonight...
