However, the Spaniard returned for pre-season training at the end of June and now looks to be settling in with his team-mates.
With Brendan Rodgers in search of a left-sided defender, Enrique looks as though he could definitely play a part in Liverpool's season. But what of 26-year-old Aspas?
As Opta stats show, the Spaniard only made one assist in 14 Premier League appearances last term, with his only goal for the Reds coming against Oldham Athletic in the Capital One Cup.
With the arrival of Rickie Lambert and possible return of Fabio Borini, meanwhile, Aspas' place in Rodgers' squad will surely be in even more doubt.
At the same time, Luis Suarez's likely departure could give the 26-year-old another chance to prove himself at Anfield. If some of the replies to Enrique's post are anything to go by, though, it will be a long road for Aspas…
