Tottenham Hotspur latest: Kane and Townsend speak; double swap-deal rejected

All the latest news, views and transfer rumours from White Hart Lane…

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed in a bid to bring Ben Davies and Michel Vorm to White Hart Lane in a straight swap deal for Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Telegraph reports that Daniel Levy offered the Icelandic midfielder for the Swansea City pair, but that he will have to return with an improved offer if he wants to sign them.

In other news, Andros Townsend has been speaking about his hopes for the new season, revealing that he hopes for a big campaign following the disappointing end to the previous one.

In an interview with SpursTV, Townsend said, “It is a big season for me. Last year was my breakthrough for club and country and now it is important I build on that and show a lot more consistency than I did last year.”

Townsend was enjoying an outstanding campaign until it was curtailed by injury, and he will be hoping to show new boss Mauricio Pochettino exactly what he can do on a consistent basis.

Another player hoping to do the same is Harry Kane, who has been speaking to the club’s official website.

The young striker was given more chances last season and duly obliged by scoring a number of goals. And the 20-year-old cannot wait to get going once more.

“It’ll be a tough pre-season but that’s what you want,” Kane said, “you want to get fit and be ready for the season ahead.

“All the lads are looking forward to that. We’ll be put through our paces and it will be good.”

Kane made 19 appearances for Spurs last season, scoring four goals and providing two assists in that time.
