It has been a tough old time of it lately for English legend Ashley Cole. The left-back has undoubtedly been one of the top full-backs of his generation but he has suffered a difficult couple of months for both club and country.
First he was left out of the England squad for the World Cup this summer, with Luke Shaw preferred, and he subsequently retired from international football.
Then he was informed by Chelsea that his services were no longer needed at the club - and he was a free agent.
But today looks set to become the first day of a new adventure for Cole, as the former Arsenal man looks like being on the verge of sealing a deal to join AS Roma in Serie A.
The Giallorossi have been heavily linked with Cole over the past few days, and despite his agent announcing no deal was done just yesterday - that no longer seems to be the case.
The official Roma Twitter account has now unveiled a photo of Cole arriving in Rome to finalise negotiations and a move to the Italian capital.
For Cole it is perhaps the perfect move. Italian football has become a haven for world-class, but perhaps ageing, defenders over the years - and there is no doubt he will be a hit at the Stadio Olimpico.
