Emre Can has given his Liverpool team-mates a taste of what is to come on the opening day of pre-season.

Today saw nearly all of the Premier League teams get into pre-season action ahead of the 2014-15 season.

That was no different at Melwood, where Brendan Rodgers led his team in a first session of the summer this afternoon.

Of course there were some absent faces. Nobody on World Cup duty was present. So there was no place for captain Steven Gerrard, new signings Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert or the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling or Simon Mignolet - as they enjoy a mini-holiday before getting back into action.

Of course Luis Suarez was not there either. He is banned from Melwood under his FIFA wrist-slap but would not have been present anyway - because of his international duties. He may never return. A deal with Barcelona now seems a matter of when not if.

But there was still plenty of others present. Lucas Leiva, Phillipe Coutinho and Daniel Agger were present - while Fabio Borini, Suso and another returning loanee in Andre Wisdom also featured.

But the main attraction was likely to be Emre Can. The German midfielder joined the club at the start of June for around £9.8 million - as Rodgers looks to shore up his midfield area for a Champions League season.

And the cameramen at Liverpool managed to catch a great moment, as Can demonstrated his athleticism by going for an overhead kick, which, apparently, he scored!

Liverpool fans will hope to see the same thing at Anfield in 2014-15.
