El Atlético comienza la pretemporada con Filipe Luis y Miranda http://t.co/7Swzn5dFQb— Fans del Atlético (@FansDelAtletico) July 7, 2014
The World Cup may be ongoing and the La Liga fixtures are yet to be announced, but Atletico Madrid are already back to work in their efforts to keep hold of the trophy.
It has been a tricky off-season for the Champions League runners-up, who have been battling to keep hold of their players.
The big name departure is Diego Costa, whose switch to Chelsea was confirmed last week, while Thibaut Courtois is not expected to return for a fourth season on loan.
Another player linked with signing for the Blues is Filipe Luis, claimed to be particularly unhappy at Atletico refusing to negotiate for anything less than his €24 million release clause.
There was reported to be real intrigue as to whether he would even turn up to Atletico Madrid's pre-season training yesterday, but he showed his professionalism comes first by linking back up with his teammates regardless of off-the-field negotiations.
Another linked away star back on the training pitch was Brazilian centre-back Miranda, who like his compatriot Luis was harshly overlooked for the Selecao's World Cup squad.
He has been touted for a move to Manchester United, as well as Barcelona, although his release clause of €30 million has so far served to deter interest developing into his departure, and in recent days it has even been suggested he could sign a new deal at Atletico.
Both players return to training is one hurdle overcome already for Diego Simeone and the club, who will hope they can now re-focus on giving their best for Atletico.
There were just 14 players in attendance, report AS, with most on extended breaks due to international duty, with Spain's contingent not due back until next week.
One player not present was midfielder Tiago Mendes, linked with a free transfer to Chelsea.
His Atletico Madrid contract has expired, and as he is now officially without a club as a free agent, he was not due to attend.
