Monaco striker drawing Championship interest

Stade Louis II Monaco

Gaetano Monachello is being allowed to leave on loan next season, and a number of Championship clubs are interested including Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth, Brentford and Blackpool.

The 20-year old powerful striker has failed to make a competitive appearance for AS Monaco since arriving in June 2013. Having progressed through the youth ranks at Inter Milan, the youngster played for Metalurh Donetsk and Olympiakos Nicosia before arriving in Monaco - although he left the club for two loan spells with Cercle Brugge and Ergotelis of Greece.

With the youngster behind the likes of Radamel Falcao, Dimitar Berbatov and James Rodriguez in the pecking order of attacking talent at Stade Louis II, it has been revealed that Les Rouges et Blancs are willing to let Monachello leave on loan again this season, and Sky Sports has suggested that a number of Championship clubs are keeping tabs on the former Italian Under-17 international.

The Principality club are willing to cover the strikers full wage packet, which has alerted a selection of second division clubs who cannot afford the high valuation of premium talent.

Millwall, Sheffield Wednesday, Bournemouth, Brentford and Blackpool are all reported to have an interest in Monachello, and, although his striking record is hardly stellar, there is a chance that a full season of competitive football could be the catalyst needed to kick-start his professional career with the Ligue 1 super club.

Despite scoring with regularity during his youth days at Internazionale, Monachello has failed to kick on, and has netted just ten times in 40 professional appearances. The towering striker is well regarded for his heading ability, and also for his reading of the game - with which he often cuts out misplaced passes and creates one-on-one chances for himself.

Whether he completes a move to the second tier of English football remains to be seen, but Championship fans will be excited to know that their clubs are interested in a striker who has trained with the world class talent that Monaco currently possess.
