Atletico Madrid medically examined Chelsea-bound keeper's replacement at Vicente Calderon.
One of the more intriguing battles in the Premier League next season does not include two warring teams, but a competition for the primary goalkeeping spot at Stamford Bridge as Thibaut Courtois and Petr Cech both vie for Jose Mourinho's number one candidacy.
There were side factors… there was ambiguity over whether Cech would even continue at Chelsea if his position was not secure, while Courtois could enter an unprecedented fourth spell at Atletico Madrid, where he has flourished as a player in the past three years on loan.
The latter is now a seeming impossibility as Cadena Cope report that the Vicente Calderon club have already made the necessary measures to ensure Courtois is adequately replaced - and the man they have brought in to guard their goal has already, reportedly, undergone a medical examination.
A report said: "Atletico Madrid and Benfica are in advanced talks for the transfer of the Slovenian goalkeeper Jan Oblak. The Slovenian goalkeeper has passed a medical with Atletico and his signing could be made official in the next few hours."
The same report indicates that Atletico could make a big announcement as the signing of Mario Mandzukic, a former target of Chelsea, could also be nearing.
