Higuain: I know nothing about Barcelona interest

Higuain

Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain has insisted that he has had no contact with Barcelona despite recent rumours of an imminent switch.

Gonzalo Higuain has rejected speculation that he may leave Napoli for Barcelona after his World Cup campaign with Argentina ends.

Higuain was impressive for Napoli last season and found the net 17 times to help the Partenopei finish third in Serie A.

The 26-year-old, who was born in France. had been struggling to meet expectations at the World Cup, but he scored the all important goal against Belgium to help Argentina through to the semi-finals.

There have been links with various clubs, including Arsenal, who tried to sign him before he joined Napoli, and recently rumours have surfaced that Higuain might sign for Barcelona.

But the player seems to have no idea where such talk came from and insists there has been no approach from the Catalan side.

"I really don't know what will happen, but nobody from Barcelona has spoken to me or my agent," Higuain said in Colombian newspaper El Espectador.

"For now I am a Napoli player but at the forefront of my mind at the moment is doing well for Argentina.

"At present I am only thinking of the World Cup but then we will see."

Higuain's words may allay the immediate fears of the Napoli fans but they don't inspire complete confidence that the marksman may leave should an attractive offer arrive.
