There is no doubt that Arsenal are in need of a striker this summer. In reality, they needed one last summer. But while it looks as though the list has now been shortened to Alexis Sanchez and perhaps Loic Remy, plenty of the players they have been linked with have moved elsewhere or committed their futures.
Michy Batshuayi has joined Marseille, Karim Benzema is on the verge of a new deal with Real Madrid and Mirko Vucinic has joined Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates.
Now it seems another name previously linked with Arsenal is on his way to another club.
Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata was always going to have a struggle for first-team football, but after playing just 558 minutes of La Liga football last term - and now wants regular first-team football.
Arsenal, VfL Wolfsburg of the Bundesliga and Serie A champions Juventus have been the strongest linked teams regarding Morata - now it seems the latter have won the race.
Following reports in Italy this morning that today could be a judgement day in his case his agent has now spoken about negotiations with the Bianconeri and Los Blancos.
As quoted by Diario As, his agent Juanma Lopez told reporters this morning outside the Bernabeu:
"Morata is closer to Juventus."
All that is believed to be agreed is the buy-back clause Real want in his contract and the overall fee. Once that is agreed, this deal should sail over the line.
