French striker would still be the perfect move for Liverpool

Alexandre Lacazette

Despite interest in Markovic and Origi a move for Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette would still be the perfect move for Liverpool.

Liverpool are not holding back this summer and are being linked with a whole host of players.

Lille’s Divock Origi is one of the most recent players to be linked with a move to Anfield, but according to local French paper Le Progres, it doesn’t mean that Brendan Rodgers has given up on Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The 23-year old striker scored 15 goals for Lyon last season and has attracted the likes of Juventus, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. He has failed to sign an extension on his current contract at OL and would be available for just over £10 million if the deal was right for President Jean Michel Aulas.

Lacazette is not desperate to leave his hometown club, but it seems that Lyon aren’t willing to increase his wages to the level he would like. In England he would be able to triple his current wages without even being close to any clubs top earner.

After an abysmal start to the 2013/14 campaign, the goals of Lacazette propelled OL back up the table, finishing in fifth. This is the forward’s fifth season in the Lyon first-team, his previous highest goal tally was five, but that was back in 2012.

In 22 appearances, his 13 goals put him level with Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani in the goal scoring charts, only 2nd to the Uruguayan’s teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic. If you remove goals scored from penalties, Lacazette finished as Ligue 1’s top scorer from open play this season.

Lacazette’s style would fit in perfectly to the free-flowing football that Liverpool played last season and if Luis Suarez was to move on to Barcelona, he wouldn’t be a direct replacement, but he’d go some way to filling to void.

At £10 million he is a bargain with the potential to become one of Europe’s top strikers if developed at the right club.

Luis Suarez was not worth £70 million when he signed from Ajax, but under Rodgers he has turned into one of the best strikers in the world. Liverpool may need to replace him this season, but either way Anfield would be the ideal place for Lacazette to take his next step.
