Yesterday saw Chelsea send out their talented youngster Thorgan Hazard on loan for another season. The younger brother of Eden has been on top form in Belgium for Zulte-Waregem for the past season and a half. Last season he was named the Belgian Golden Shoe winner as the best player in the Belgian Pro League.
Now he has been sent to the Bundesliga. After agreeing terms with three clubs Hazard had to decide between Schalke 04, VfL Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach, and he chose the latter.
Hazard is now likely to receive plenty of game time at the club this season. Gladbach are an ambitious squad with plenty of talent throughout the team. They have also been on something of a recruitment drive this season - with the end goal likely to be a place in the Champions League come 2015-16.
After the move Hazard spoke of many things, including his lack of knowledge regarding the history of the club:
"First of all I am happy that I can now play for Borussia. Too much I do not know about the club, but I hope that I will soon learn more about him. I know that Marco Reus has played here and of course also know my fellow countryman Filip Daems . Everything else I will certainly learn in the coming time."
Hazard, who also mentioned that the club's manager Lucien Favre's ability to speak French was central to his decision has similar characteristics with the Borussia Dortmund star. Chelsea would love him to become as good in time.
He was also asked about his relationship with his brother. Eden once famously dubbed Thorgan as the better of the two brothers and they are often seen together on Instagram. And he confirmed that they were close:
"We understand each other very well and have a lot of contact with each other. We talk a lot about football, but of course the family or other private things."
For Chelsea it is great to know the pair have a good relationship. Thorgan is surely a star of the future and with Eden as a mentor they have a real star for the future.
Next season he will try to emulate Marco Reus, and make a name for himself with Gladbach. If he does it will then surely be time for him to get his Chelsea call-up.
