A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Some rumours make sense while others are a little harder to believe, and this next one falls firmly into the second category.

Manchester United reportedly want Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to the Sunday People.

The Spanish stopper looked set to move to Monaco this summer but reports claim that deal has now fallen through. As a result, United have seen their name thrown into a hypothetical battle with Arsenal for the 32-year-old.

With David de Gea excelling at United, Valdes is unlikely to agree to move to a club where his game-time will be severely impaired as a result.

In other news, Stefan de Vrij’s agent has dismissed claims the player has already agreed to join United this summer.

In an interview with Lazionews24 and later published by Goal, the centre-back’s representative said, “We have no agreement with Manchester United, nor have we signed for them.

“I don’t know where this rumour came from.”

De Vrij has impressed for the Netherlands this summer and would be a great signing for Louis van Gaal for a relatively cheap fee. But it seems any move is some way off and may not happen at all.

And finally, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport claims Patrice Evra could be a Juventus player in the next 48 hours.

The French left-back has been linked with a move despite recently seeing a one-year contract extension activated.

With the arrival of Luke Shaw, the United stalwart is likely to see his game-time severely reduced.
