The Arsenal midfielder and former Manchester United defender have had a friendly ribbing across media platforms.
Costa Rica may have exited the World Cup but the fact they even made it to the quarter-final stage is still a massive achievement from these footballing minnows.
One of the key players in their success story was Fulham midfielder Bryan Ruiz. The midfield creator, who unfortunately missed a penalty last night, has been superb throughout the tournament - scoring crucial goals against Italy and Greece.
His style of play often leaves much to be admired. There is no doubt he often appears languid and disinterested. But that turned into mercurial brilliance as captain of his nation.
On the BBC they raved about him before kick-off last night, showing off his best hits reel from the tournament - including a wonderful bit of skill against England in that awful 0-0 draw dead rubber.
His 360 turn left Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere planted, and looking quite silly, and whilst commentating on the video clip BBC studio pundit Rio Ferdinand mocked his good friend Wilshere, stating:
"Oops. See ya later Jack."
But not to be outdone, the Arsenal midfielder was quick onto Twitter to respond to Rio - with a friendly reminder of the time he was awkwardly left hanging for a handshake buy one of David Haye's trainers on live television:
Rio went on to accept the jibe, but don't be surprised if these two buddies go at it again on Twitter in the near future.
