Dietmar Hamann is the latest person to have his say on Emre Can’s £9.8million move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool.
The defensive midfielder may only be 20, but huge things are expected of the former Bayern Munich man. And if he continues his current trajectory Brendan Rodgers may have just bagged a bargain.
Speaking to Liverpool’s official website, former Red Hamann hailed Can’s arrival.
“He’s a very talented player,” Hamann said. “He’s a technically gifted player of Turkish origin; these players always handle the ball very well.
“He’s also not short of pace and he’s physically strong. I thin central midfield or defensive midfield is his best position. He’s only very young but he’s physically strong and technically gifted so the English game should suit him.”
Can may not be the headline name to immediately set Liverpool fans’ minds racing towards potential Premier League and European glory. But his arrival continues Brendan Rodgers’ recent habit of signing prodigiously talented young players for cut-price fees.
It can only be hoped that Can follows in the footsteps of the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge in becoming another player to help Liverpool back to the summit of the domestic and – ultimately – European game.
