Manchester United are in desperate need of a winger this summer, and could look to the World Cup in order to get one.
New United boss Louis van Gaal has already looked to solve some of the issues at Old Trafford by signing a new left back and new central midfielder in the shape of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, but there is still work to do for the 62-year-old, with the flanks now a real concern.
The likes of Ashley Young, Nani and Antonio Valencia have all flattered to deceive over the past two seasons, and some of them could be sold. Even if they stay, van Gaal must look to find another winger this summer, even with the emergence of Belgian prodigy Adnan Januzaj.
With money to spend at Old Trafford this summer, here are five wingers who have impressed at the World Cup this summer that the Red Devils should be looking to sign.
Angel di Maria, Argentina
The Real Madrid star has been tipped to leave the Spanish capital this summer with Carlo Ancelotti's men reportedly looking to sign James Rodriguez from Monaco. Still only 26, di Maria is a hard working winger who can pose a threat to any defence with his pace - something United desperately need after their tame attacking play last season. A £40m price tag is reportedly on di Maria's head, and whilst that may be too expensive given the £60m forked out for Shaw and Herrera, but the former Benfica man has everything United are looking for.
Juan Cuadrado, Colombia
Whilst it was Rodriguez who took most of the plaudits for Colombia at the World Cup, winger Cuadrado was impressive in his own right. The Fiorentina man racked up 14 goals and 12 assists in Serie A last season, and took that form into the World Cup with a goal and four assists. His speed down the right hand side of the Colombia attack was a constant menace to opposing left backs, and after speculation last week linked him with a £32m move to Old Trafford, Cuadrado appears to be a name near the top of van Gaal's transfer wishlist.
Antoine Griezmann, France
Handed a bigger role in Didier Deschamps' French side after an injury to Franck Ribery, Griezmann was another player who had a stunning domestic season before impressing in Brazil. With 16 goals for La Liga side Real Sociedad, the 23-year-old became one of the hottest properties in Europe this season and has continued to look bright with his control and dribbling in Brazil. He'd seemingly come a little cheaper than di Maria and Cuadrado at £25m, but they'd have stern competition for his signature.
Memphis Depay, Netherlands
Given that van Gaal is set to leave his post as Netherlands boss to take the reins at Old Trafford, it's no shock to see a number of his Dutch players linked with moves to United. Depay, 20, has become one of the rising stars of Dutch football having impressed with PSV Eindhoven, combining speed with devastating long range shooting ability to earn the tag 'the Dutch Cristiano Ronaldo'. It will reportedly cost United £17m to land Depay, and manager van Gaal will know his game inside out - and will know if he's worth what the Eredivisie side are looking for.
Xherdan Shaqiri, Switzerland
With Ribery and Arjen Robben ahead of him in the pecking order at Bayern Munich, it seems that Swiss key man Shaqiri is set to leave the Allianz Arena this summer. Liverpool have been most strongly linked with a move to sign the 22-year-old, who did his reputation no harm with a great hat-trick against Honduras at the World Cup. The Red Devils may have to fight with rivals Liverpool in order to sign him, and that could cost anywhere between £15m and £20m - but his quality was there for all to see in Brazil.
