According to a number of reports coming out of Spain, Barcelona and Liverpool have agreed on a €79 million (£62.5m) fee for Uruguayan superstar Luis Suarez.
The 27-year-old has long been linked with a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid and following his inexplicable actions at the World Cup a potential deal has been significantly boosted.
Barcelona are said to want the star despite Suarez receiving a four-month ban from football for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, whereas Liverpool have all-but accepted his exit as they eye up Alexis Sanchez in return.
There is little doubting Luis Suarez’s ability as one of the greatest strikers in the world today, but his actions and previous behaviour have left a number of Barcelona supporters questioning the deal.
When asked via a poll by the Spanish newspaper Diario Sport how much they believe Luis Suarez is worth, the Nou Camp faithful stunningly voted much lower than the reported €79 million agreement.
Here are the results from the poll:
Under €40 million – 17%
Between €40 million and €50 million – 28%
Between €50 million and €60 million – 37%
Between €60 million and €70 million – 9%
Between €70 million and €80 million – 2%
Between €80 million and €90 million – 2%
Over €90 million – 5%
As a result, only 9% of the Catalan participants felt that The Reds striker was worth over €70 million.
As for Liverpool, after the transfers of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can, money received from a potential Luis Suarez deal could help fund yet more signings this summer.
One key area, however, would be a natural replacement for the striker and it could take a huge sum of money to replace the 31 Premier League goals scored by Suarez last season.
