England international midfielder Jack Wilshere was following the 2014 World Cup quarter-final clash between Germany and France on Friday.
The Three Lions may have been knocked out of the tournament, but that has not stopped the Arsenal star from watching what is turning out to be the best World Cup ever.
On Friday, a number of Arsenal players were involved in the match at the Estadio do Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, including Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud.
However, the French duo ended up on the losing side, while the Arsenal trio of Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker rejoiced in a 1-0 victory.
On Saturday morning, Wilshere sent a message on social networking site Twitter to the three German players, wishing them the best of luck in the semi-finals (click here to read more).
Later on the same day, Mertesacker replied to his Arsenal teammate’s message, also on Twitter.
RT "@JackWilshere: Well done to my Germans on reaching the Semi Final Good luck against Brazil." Thanks Jack!! See you at pre-season ...— Per Mertesacker (@mertesacker) July 5, 2014
It is the third time in a row that Germany have reached the semi-finals of the World Cup - they are the most consistent international team of this century.
Defender Mertesacker is “proud” of his country’s performance, and believes that he and his teammates are having a good tournament.
Semifinals again ... proud of "DIE MANNSCHAFT". It takes 23 players to make it a good tournament. And we are on a good way .... #wc2014— Per Mertesacker (@mertesacker) July 5, 2014
Waiting for Germany in the semi-finals are hosts Brazil, who will prove to be very tough opponents.
The Selecao have not played exactly well and have struggled on occasions, but with the home crowd behind them, they will be favourites against the European giants.
