It was being reported yesterday that West Ham United had completed the signing of Charlton Athletic midfielder Diego Poyet - despite interest from perhaps more illustrious clubs.
Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have all been linked with moves for the player - who decided not to sign a new contract at The Valley this summer.
The 19-year-old England youth international is of course the son of former Chelsea player and current Sunderland boss Gustavo Poyet and was named the Player of the Year for The Addicks last season - despite only making his debut in January.
He was reportedly undergoing a medical on Friday with the deal set to be concluded sometime next week, Poyet is expected to sign a four-year deal at the club.
He would be an excellent signing for the club, and a real player for the future. His cultured and skillfull style will also placate the West Ham fans who want to see more players of that ilk at the club - so West Ham can play the attractive football that they expect from The Hammers.
The Hammers have been busy in the transfer market already this summer. They snapped up talented Aaron Cresswell from Ipswich Town and were after Dundee United full-back Andrew Robertson this week. Cresswell joined Mauro Zarate and Cheikhou Kouyate at the Boleyn ahead of an exciting season for the club.
West Ham fans are obviously happy with the reported deal, although some will remain nervous until he is seen holding up a Hammers shirt. But overall it is another deal that has gone down well with West Ham fans and with more deals set to come 2014-15 season could be a great year to be a Hammer...
Here is a selection of Tweets about the deal...
