Tottenham Hotspur are set to make a £5 million bid for Nottingham Forest defender Jamaal Lascelles, according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old’s impressive performances of late for Forest appear to have made him a subject of interest to Spurs.

However, it has also been reported that newly promoted Premier League outfit Queens Park Rangers are keen on the youngster as well, having made a £4m offer to the Championship club.

Meanwhile, Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen will be action on Saturday as Belgium take on Argentina in the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup.

The Red Devils face a tough challenge against the South American giants, who have a certain Lionel Messi in top form at the moment.

However, former Ajax star Vertonghen insists that he and his teammates have no special plan to stop the Barcelona forward.

‘We will stop Messi as a team’, the Daily Star quotes the 27-year-old as saying. ‘We won't put one player on him, that's not our style and he is too good to do that.

‘He is not the only danger but obviously he is one of the best players in the world, maybe the best, but we are strong enough to keep him quiet’.

Vertonghen's Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris will be in goal when France confront Germany for a place in the last eight later today.

Lloris is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers, but also on the pitch at the Maracana today will be a certain Manuel Neuer, who is considered by many as the best custodian in the world.

Neuer’s performance as a ‘sweeper-keeper’ against Algeria in the last 16 impressed many, including Lloris.

‘When the team pushes so high up the pitch, you have to be able to play further forward and perform the role of a libero’, AFP quotes the 27-year-old as saying.

‘Neuer is certainly the most complete goalkeeper in the world and is capable of doing that role. He did it remarkably against Algeria’.
