Brazilian football fans pay homage to their favourite players by naming their children after their idols.

The World Cup in Brazil has reached a new level and fans are beginning to name their new-born children after their footballing heroes.

The latest trend for names is not Neymar, which may come as a surprise to many. David Luiz is the name on parents' lips at the moment as it seems to be trending across South America.

Doctors have admitted to hearing new-borns named after the likes of Zico, Diego Maradona and Zinedine Zidane, but there has not been anything like the number of boys being named after the Paris Saint-Germain and Brazilian defender.

Luiz completed his reported £40 million move from Chelsea to PSG before the World Cup and became the most expensive defender in the world.

The 27-year-old, who can play both in defence and in midfield, has been in good form for his country Brazil at the World Cup.

Brazil fans and parents will be hoping that Luiz can inspire the Selecao  to World Cup glory to give their new baby sons' names a whole new meaning.
