Confirmed: Germany line-up for France clash – No place for Arsenal’s Mertesacker

Here is how Germany will line up against France at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro, including Arsenal star and Manchester United target.

Germany will be determined to get the better of France and progress to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Die Mannschaft have not exactly looked in great form in recent matches, but they do have a strong squad and will be confident of defeating their European rivals.

Joachim Low’s side kicked off their World Cup campaign with a 4-0 hammering of Portugal in Group G, but were then held to a 2-2 draw by Ghana.

The three-time world champions did back to winning ways in their next game, though, as they beat the USA 1-0, topping their group in the process.

The 2002 World Cup finalists struggled in their last-16 clash against Algeria and could not break the deadlock in the normal 90 minutes.

However, Germany did eventually defeat their African opponents 2-1 in extra time, thanks to goals from Andre Schurrle and Mesut Ozil.

Today, the Germans will face much tougher opponents in France in the quarter-finals, who are on a good run of form and will be keen on securing their place in the last four of the tournament.

The match will be held at the famous Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
