Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for Real Madrid attacker but will any have been priced out?
If Angel di Maria is to secure a transfer away from Real Madrid then it will be for a club record fee, according to MARCA, who explain that Los Blancos would expect to at least meet the funds they received for Mesut Ozil, who exited the Santiago Bernabeu for Arsenal's Emirates Stadium for £42.4 million last summer.
di Maria, 26, is, along with goal-hungry Lionel Messi, currently enjoying centre stage for Argentina during the FIFA World Cup.
In his four appearances in the Brazil tournament to date, di Maria has averaged almost 60 passes per match, has created 11 goal-scoring opportunities, successfully attempted 23 dribbles and has returned one goal.
These are no freak statistics as the forward returned 91 key passes, 17 assists and four goals from 27 La Liga starts for Real last season in form that enhanced Arsenal's interest, as well as attracting Premier League rivals Manchester City and Manchester United.
di Maria's consistency, from the Spanish division to international football, may have seen his transfer fee rise considerably, especially if Real expect the remuneration to eclipse Ozil's price-tag.
That will not likely perturb Arsene Wenger, though, who was told by chairman Sir Chips Keswick that the club have the financial firepower to continue to break their own internal transfer fee record with another two or three Ozil's.
Keswick said earlier this year: "[We will] support the manager in the transfer market when he identifies players he believes can further strengthen the squad."
If Arsenal - or indeed City or United - want di Maria, they will have to bid higher than €55 million (£42.5 million) for the player's signature.
