Manchester City determined to keep hold of Negredo and Nastasic

Manchester City have no interest in selling striker Alvaro Negredo or defender Matija Nastasic according to the Manchester Evening News.

There have been reports in Spain suggesting that Negredo is a target for La Liga champions Atletico Madrid after only one season in the Premier League following his signing from Sevilla. Negredo has also been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal in recent days as the Gunners look to strengthen their forward line.

The 28-year-old hit a purple patch of form during the midway point of last season which helped Manchester City win both the League Cup and Premier League title. He scored a total of 23 goals from 49 games during his maiden campaign in English football but did see his form suffer towards the end of the season.

Defender Nastasic missed most of last season with a knee injury, and has been linked with a move to Serie A champions Juventus but given that Joleon Lescott has left the club, City can ill-afford to lose the 21-year-old, as Manuel Pellegrini is said to be looking to bring in another centre-back.

It seems as though Pellegrini values both players very highly. Despite Negredo's loss of form towards the end of last season, his contribution towards City's success last season should not be overlooked in what was a formidable attacking unit.

Prior to his injury, and under Roberto Manicini, Nastasic seemed to fit in well alongside Vincent Kompany at the heart of the City defence and offers them a degree of balance given that he is left-footed, and compliments the back line well. For much of last season Martin Demichelis stepped in during his absence.
