What can we tell you about the talented and versatile player Arsenal have been checking out?

Reports from Irish press' Evening Echo yesterday suggested that Arsenal were keen on the signature of Irish under-21 international Brian Lenihan.

The young talent is one of the country's hottest prospects and chief scout Steve Rowley has been checking him out in action at Turner's Cross on Friday night as Cork City defeated Limerick 3-0.

So what can we tell you about the star? Is he the next Seamus Coleman?

Here are five facts on Brian Lenihan...

1) Lenihan was born in Cork on the 8th June 1994, making him 20-years-old - so he is a young target for The Gunners, who are obviously looking to the future with his signature.

2) Lenihan is a versatile and technical player. He has played mostly at centre-back in recent months but he can also play at right-back and his favoured position in the centre of midfield.

3) He made his debut for Cork in August 2012 only played 58 minutes of football in 2013. However this season has been superb for the player - featuring in 1329 minutes of football for City.

4) Lenihan's talents have been appreciated on the national stage. A Republic of Ireland school-boy international he has also turned out for the Under-19 side. He made his debut for the Irish under-21s recently. Featuring against Qatar and is a bright spark for the future.

5) However, Arsenal have competition from two very real threats. Bournemouth are chasing him, and could offer him first-team football. Meanwhile Aston Villa are said to be keen, and the presence of Roy Keane, himself a Cork native, could make him consider a switch to the Midlands.
