Burnley confirm new goalkeeper signing

Burnley have signed former Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

The 32-year-old was a free agent this summer but has moved to Turf Moor ahead of the Clarets' bid to stay in the Premier League after promotion from the Championship.

Gilks began his career at Rochdale before joining Norwich City and later Blackpool. Now, he has joined Sean Dyche's side on a two-year-deal.

The club website's announcement read: "Burnley Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of former Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks.

"The Scotland international, a free agent, becomes the Clarets’ second signing of the summer after agreeing a two-year deal at Turf Moor, subject to Premier League and FA approval."

Gilks joins Tom Heaton, Alex Cisak and youngster Daniel Nizic in the Clarets’ goalkeeping department and will join his team-mates in pre-season training later this week.

Last week, Burnley announced their first signing of the summer, Michael Kightly, who spent last term on loan with the Clarets.

This summer, they have moved to sign the Stoke City winger on a permanent deal and he has now been joined by Gilks as Dyche looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
