Derby County duo Johnny Russell and Will Hughes have inadvertently, or maybe even advertently, caused a stir on Twitter by tweeting the Rams key target George Thorne in order to express their desire in his arrival at the club.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Derby County this summer, and has openly expressed a longing to leave West Bromwich Albion through the national media.
Talking in June, the midfielder said: ‘’Anyone who knows me will tell you that, compared to how I have been, I’m much happier now.
‘’I felt at home at Derby, I felt wanted at Derby, which I certainly didn’t at West Brom. I felt like a squad player at West Brom and most times not even that. I’ve never really had a sustained spell or chance and enough’s enough.
‘’On my mind now is playing football and Derby is a very good option for me.’’
Although talks are on-going between the two clubs over a third bid, the expectation is that the discussions will come to a head in the next couple of weeks with the eventual outcome still an unknown.
The admiration on the part of the Derby players for Thorne up is no surprise, but mentioning on Twitter to the scrutiny of supporters is.
The Rams, under the instruction of Sam Rush, are adamant that all their summer transfer discussions will be done behind closed doors and not open to the public eye, which was proven yesterday with regards to rumours of bids for Bryson and Francis left unaddressed by the club.
Nevertheless, it’s likely that it won’t be long until Rams and Baggies fans find out the decision between the two clubs as the Rams have just over five weeks until their season kicks off against Rotherham at home and will undoubtedly want things sorted as soon as possible.
