Rio Ferdinand would have Pogba back over Vidal or Kroos

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Paul Pogba is a better option than Arturo Vidal or Toni Kroos.

Manchester United may have already snapped up Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera this summer but the rumours are they are still after another player to bulk out their midfield area.

Two names which have been repeatedly named as potential signings are Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal and Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos.

Both have just come off the back of excellent World Cup's, indeed Kroos is still in Brazil as Germany gear up to face off against France in the quarter finals.

And in doing so he will go toe-to-toe with a player many believe should be filling that role already ... Paul Pogba.

Pogba was of course a former Manchester United youngster. However after a lack of first-team football Pogba fell out with Sir Alex Ferguson and refused to sign a new deal at club - instead joining Juventus on a free transfer.

Since then he has become a regular in Serie A's marquee outfit and the French national team.

And one former United player would rather have Pogba over both Kroos and Vidal. Currently in Rio De Janeiro as part of the BBC punditry team for the FIFA World Cup Rio Ferdinand has been speaking to fans on Twitter this morning - and gave this response to a fan asking him who he preferred - Vidal or Kroos?

Ferdinand has of course waxed lyrical about Pogba in the past. He recently said United made a mistake letting him slip through their fingers and that he would 'get him in a headlock' to sign him up - such is his talent.

This weekend we will at least get a chance to see him and Kroos go head-to-head, which should give us some answers to the question of who is better.

United will just hope that Herrera proves to match his illustrious contemporaries in 2014-15.
