Barcelona official Andoni Zubizaretta has announced that Liverpool transfer target Pedro is ‘untransferable’ in the eyes of the Spanish club.
Liverpool have been linked with plenty of winger targets as Brendan Rodgers looks to take care of a hole at left midfield in his current squad.
Pedro has been mentioned as a potential signing, along with his Barcelona teammate Alexis Sanchez and Bayern Munich wide man Xherdan Shaqiri.
However, in the case of the Spaniard, Liverpool may be wasting their time if they try and get Barcelona to start talks over Pedro.
“Pedro is not transferable. We need to restore the things that Pedro represents and we are counting on him,” Zubizaretta is quoted by Catalan newspaper Sport.
The news will be a blow to Liverpool but out of the three options, he’s arguably third choice.
Liverpool are thought to be one of the clubs to have made an offer over Alexis, who excelled for Chile in a central role at the World Cup in Brazil.
However, he’s made the majority of his Barcelona appearances as a left sided midfield man, which is the role the Reds would be buying him for as they have plenty of cover through the middle already.
Shaqiri can be considered unfortunate not to have played more at Bayern Munich given his qualities as a very solid wide player.
He played in seven different positions for Munich last season, never settling in one role for longer than four games.
He could relish the chance to join a huge club like Liverpool, with Champions League football in the bank and a chance to nail down a position to make his own in the first team.
His chances of playing more regularly at Bayern haven’t really changed and the Reds can use that to their advantage.
Pedro is perfectly suited to the way Liverpool play but with Barca reportedly wanting to hang onto him, Rodgers’ side still have two very good options.
